Yusuf Soybaş

Yusuf Soybaş (born 24 April 1943 in Urla, Izmir Province) is a former Turkish Lieutenant General of the Gendarmerie (Jandarma).

Leven

After attending school, Soybaş began officer training at the Army Academy (Kara Harp Okulu), from which he graduated in 1963. He then attended the Infantry School (Piyade Okulu) between 1962 and 1963 and found numerous uses as an officer in various army units. After attending the Army Staff College (Kara Harp Akademisi) in 1983, he found further assignments as an officer and staff officer in the Army as well as in the General Command of the Gendarmerie such as, first, from 1983 to 1986 as Deputy Military Attaché at the Embassy in France and, between 1986 and 1987, as Commander of the 119th Border Guard Regiment stationed in Şırnak. He was transferred to the General Directorate of the Gendarmerie in 1987 and served as Secretary General of the General Directorate of the Gendarmerie between 1988 and 1989

Subsequently, between 1989 and 1991, Soybaş was commander of the 21st Border Guard Brigade of the Gendarmerie stationed in Yüksekova and was promoted to brigadier general (Tuğgeneral ) in this assignment before becoming head of the General Policy Planning and Coordination Department in the Gendarmerie General Command from 1991 to 1992. He was subsequently Head of the Operations Department in the Gendarmerie General Command from 1992 to 1995, and as such was promoted to Major General ( Tümgeneral). He then served as Deputy Commander of the Gendarmerie for Public Order between 1995 and 1996, Commander of the 21st Border Guard Division between 1996 and 1997, and then again as Head of the Operations Department in the Gendarmerie General Command between 1997 and 1998.

On August 24, 1998, Soybaş was promoted to Lieutenant General (Korgeneral) and appointed Head of the Inspection Department in the General Command of the Gendarmerie. Most recently, he became Chief of Staff of the General Command of the Gendarmerie (Jandarma Genel Komutanlığı) in 2000.

His marriage to Öznur Soybaş produced two children.
