The seele Group (completely seele group GmbH & Co. KG) is an internationally active group of companies that specializes in the development, production and marketing of construction elements for glass and membrane architecture. It is represented in 12 countries, has production facilities in Germany as well as the Czech Republic and employs approximately 1000 people (as of March 2017). The group is headquartered in Gersthofen near Augsburg.
History
The company was founded on 23 January 1984 by master glazier Gerhard Seele and steel construction designer Siegfried Goßner in Gersthofen. Smaller regional orders were quickly followed by major projects throughout Germany. At the same time, the two company founders developed special steel-glass façade systems and applied for patents. By 1993, turnover and the number of employees had increased tenfold.[1]
In 1994, the company expanded further by opening subsidiaries in Austria, France and England. Two years later, the production facility in Pilsen, Czech Republic, began operations. After the turn of the millennium, a branch in the United States joined the company. The production of particularly large and high-quality glasses began in 2007. A short time later, the company took over the insolvent membrane manufacturer covertex GmbH from Obing. In 2008, the production of aluminium element facades was also started at the headquarters in Gersthofen.[1]
Mentionable projects of the seele group are among others:
- King’s Cross Station in London
- Strasbourg train station
- European Central Bank in Frankfurt
- Glass Apple Cube on 5th Avenue in New York,
- National Stadium Beijing
- Apple Park as Apple’s new headquarters in Cupertino.[2][3][4]
Products
The company primarily develops, manufactures and markets façade and roof systems that consist either exclusively of glass or of a combination of glass and steel or aluminium. A special feature in this context is the use of very large glass elements.
Furthermore, membrane constructions made of plastic films and plastic fabrics are offered.
Organisational structure and subsidiaries
Immediately below the parent company are the two holding companies seele product holding GmbH and seele holding GmbH & Co KG.[5] Seele product holding GmbH combines the construction elements and glass finishing business. The management of the national and international project business as well as advertising and communication, on the other hand, is assigned to seele holding GmbH & Co KG.
