The 2013 Scottish Women’s Premier League was the 12th staging of the top Scottish women’s football league SWPL[1]. This is organized by the Scottish Football Association.

Participants and mode

There were 12 teams taking part in the competition. New to the competition were the ladies of LFC Buchan and Kilwinning Sports Club. These finished 3rd and 4th in last season’s second division, but ahead of them were only reserve teams from first division teams who are not eligible for promotion.

The teams played from 17 March to 3 November 2013[2] in a single round robin with only one match against each of the others for placement. The top six then went on to play each other in a Championship Group, each with a first leg and a second leg, for the championship title. The final six played out two relegations to the Scottish Women’s Football League in a Relegation Group. Thus each representation has 21 (11+10) games.

The Scottish Women’s Football Champions have qualified for the 2014/15 UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The bottom two teams failed to qualify for the next SWPL season and were therefore relegated to the Scottish Women’s Premier League.
