It was part of the arrondissement of Angers and the canton of Tiercé (until 2015: canton of Durtal). The inhabitants are called Ignémontains.


Montigné-lès-Rairies is located about 31 kilometers northeast of Angers in the Baugeois. Montigné-lès-Rairies is surrounded by the neighbouring municipalities of Les Rairies to the north, Baugé-en-Anjou to the south and east, and Durtal to the west.
