Mafonso

Marino Alfonso, known as Mafonso[1] (b. 12 November 1948 in Frattaminore near Naples; † 6 November 2019 in Caserta[2]), was an Italian painter and sculptor.

Life and work

Mafonso was one of the founders of the Cosa Mentale group.[3] He created sculptures in COR-TEN steel in Capua(Dimore)[4] and Gersau.
In 2005 he participated in the collective Pittori figurativi italiani della seconda metà del xx secolo,[5] at the Mole Vanvitelliana of Ancona, curated by Armando Ginesi, and at the 13×17: 1000 artisti per un’indagine eccentrica sull’arte in Italia,[6] curated in Venice by Philippe Daverio.

Works by Mafonso can be seen at the Museo d’arte dell’Otto e del Novecento in Rende, at the Galleria d’arte moderna in Paternò,[7] at MAGI ‘900 – Museo delle eccellenze artistiche e storiche in Pieve di Cento..[8] and at the Pinacoteca Metropolitana di Bari.[9]
