List of municipalities in the district of Stendal
The list of municipalities in the district of Stendal provides an overview of the 25 smallest administrative units in the district. These are five cities, five Hanseatic towns and fifteen municipalities.
The administrative district of Stendal is located in the northeast of the state of Saxony-Anhalt. It was created under the name Landkreis Östliche Altmark in the course of the 1994 district reform by the merger of the districts of Havelberg, Osterburg and Stendal and part of the district of Salzwedel. In the same year it received its present name. The administrative district remained unaffected by the 2007 district reform. The current administrative structure has existed since 2011.[1]
Description
There are three municipalities in the district:
- Association municipality Arneburg-Goldbeck with the city of Arneburg, the Hanseatic city of Werben (Elbe) and the municipalities Eichstedt (Altmark), Goldbeck (administrative seat), Hassel, Hohenberg-Krusemark, Iden and Rochau
- Association municipality Elbe-Havel-Land with the city Sandau (Elbe) and the municipalities Kamern, Klietz, Schönhausen (Elbe) (administrative seat) and Wust-Fischbeck
- Association municipality of Seehausen (Altmark) with the Hanseatic town of Seehausen (Altmark) (administrative seat) and the municipalities of Aland, Altmärkische Höhe, Altmärkische Wische and Zehrental
The towns of Bismark (Altmark), Tangerhütte and Tangermünde and the Hanseatic towns of Havelberg, Osterburg (Altmark) and Stendal are unified municipalities.
The largest municipalities in the 2423.14 km² district are the towns of Tangerhütte and Bismark (Altmark) with 295 and 289 km² respectively. Two other municipalities are over 200 km² in size, another two between 200 and 100 km², eleven between 100 and 50 km², the remaining seven are smaller. The smallest extent of the municipalities in the district are the town of Sandau (Elbe) and the municipality of Hassel with 19 and 21 km².
Over a third of the
,190 inhabitants of the district, namely ,103, live in the district town of Stendal. The remaining municipalities have less than 12,000 inhabitants, three of them over 10,000, another three between 10,000 and 5,000, two between 3,000 and 2,000, ten between 2,000 and 1,000. The remaining six municipalities have a three-digit number of inhabitants, although in all cases this is just under 1,000; thus the smallest municipalities in the district, Iden and Altmärkische Wische, have and 00000000853 inhabitants.The average population density of the district of Stendal is
inhabitants per km². The district capital Stendal is with inhabitants per km² the most densely populated municipality of the district, beside it the city Tangermünde with inhabitants per km² is clearly above the district average. Furthermore, three municipalities have between 50 and 60 inhabitants per km², four between 49 and 40, three between 39 and 30, eight between 29 and 20 and five at most 19. Of these, the municipalities Zehrental and Altmärkische Wische are the most sparsely populated with and inhabitants per km².Legend
