Jürgen Schütz (Politiker)

Jürgen Schütz (* 14 June 1945 in Heidelberg) is a German politician (CDU). From 1984 to 1986 he was District Vice President at the Regional Council of Karlsruhe and from 1986 to 2010 District Administrator of the Rhine-Neckar District.

Education and profession

Schütz grew up in Weinheim and studied law in Heidelberg, earning a doctorate. He was an advisor to the Baden-Württemberg CDU parliamentary group and from 1974 worked in the Stuttgart State and Interior Ministries. In 1984, he was appointed District Vice President of the Karlsruhe Regional Council.[1]

Political career

In 1986, Schütz was elected in the first round of voting to the office of District Administrator of the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, the most populous district in Baden-Württemberg, which he held until his retirement in 2010. When he took office, he was the youngest district administrator in Baden-Württemberg. In addition, he was elected President of the Baden-Württemberg County Council in 2005.[2][3]

Honours and awards

In 2005, Schütz received the Ring of Honour, the highest award of the Rhine-Neckar district.[4] On 28 April 2012, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg by Minister President Winfried Kretschmann.

Private

He has been divorced from the cultural critic Margarethe Krieger since 1971.[5]

Schütz is married and has three children.
