from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George Wilhelm von Schöning (* 1700; † 1745 in Gralow) was a Prussian district administrator. He presided over the Landsberg district in the Neumark from 1730 to 1744

He came from the noble Pomeranian family von Schöning and was a son of the landowner and district administrator Friedrich Wilhelm von Schöning (* 1660; † 1730). His mother Anna Barbara († 1721) was a born von Schmalenberg and widowed von der Marwitz. From 1716 he attended the Latina of the Francke Foundations in Halle together with his younger brother

Around 1729, George Wilhelm von Schöning joined his father in his office as Landrat of the Landsberg district as an adjunct. When his father died in 1730, he became the new district administrator. In 1744 he took his leave; Hans Wotislaw von Wobeser succeeded him in office.

In 1731, after the death of his father, he received the Gralow estate in the Landsberg district, i.e. Schöning’s estate share of 2/5. In Gralow he had a manor house built. He suffered from melancholy and died in 1745

George Wilhelm von Schöning was married to Johanne Juliane Sophie von Lepel, a daughter of Major General Otto Gustav von Lepel, Governor of Küstrin. The marriage remained childless. In 1747 his widow married Major General Hans Otto von Treskow, Chief of Infantry Regiment No. 8.
