Charles Francis “Charlie” Carrel (born 7 November 1993 in Saint Brélade, Jersey, Channel Islands)[1][2] is a professional British poker player from England.
Personal
Carrel made his money as a drug dealer for a time before his poker career, and also took drugs himself.[3] He lives in London.[4]
Poker career
Online
Carrel plays on the online poker platform PokerStars under the nickname Epiphany77. He deposited £10 at the start and by April 2017 could boast a bankroll of over £3 million. For this, he at times played online for around 16 hours every day.[5] In September 2016, Carrel won a World Championship of Online Poker tournament and received over $60,000 in prize money.[6] At the end of May 2017, he won the Main Event of the Spring Championship of Online Poker, whose final table he had played in a Starbucks due to internet problems, with a victory bonus of around 1.2 million US dollars.[7]

Career
Since 2014, Carrel has also participated in prestigious live tournaments.[2]
Carrel won the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Main Event in London in late November 2014 with a win bonus of the equivalent of US$170,000.[8] In March 2015, he made the final table of the European Poker Tour (EPT) High-Roller event in Malta, finishing in fifth place for nearly €200,000 in prize money.[9] In early May 2015, Carrel won the EPT High Roller in Monte-Carlo for over €1.1 million.[10] In the summer of 2015, he had his first success at the World Series of Poker at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, finishing in the money twice, including a 940th-place finish in the Main Event.[11] In mid-December 2016, Carrel finished second in the Super High Roller event at the EPT in Prague for around €535,000 in prize money.[12] He also finished second in the Super High Roller event at the inaugural PokerStars Championship in the Bahamas in January 2017 for over $1 million.[13] In early November 2017, Carrel finished ninth in the €111,111 High Roller for One Drop at the World Series of Poker Europe at the King’s Resort in Rozvadov for nearly €300,000 in prize money.[14] In late April 2019, he made three final tables at the EPT in Monte-Carlo and secured prize money of around €600,000.[15][16][17] In early August 2019, Carrel won a Triton Super High Roller Series tournament in London and secured a win bonus equivalent to more than $1.6 million.[18] At the end of August 2019, he finished second in an event at the EPT in Barcelona, earning over €480,000.[19]
In total, Carrel has earned more than US$9.5 million playing poker in live tournaments[2] making him the third most successful British poker player after Stephen Chidwick and Sam Trickett.[20]
