Association

Brian Rodríguez hails from the youth academy of Uruguayan top flight club CA Peñarol, where he was promoted to the first team for the 2018 season. On 28 March 2018, he made his debut in a 1-1 draw against Danubio FC in Uruguay’s top flight.[1] On 24 May, he scored for the first time in a Manyas jersey in a 3-0 home win against Boston River.[2] He made his way into Peñarol’s starting line-up the following season in 2019.[3]

On 7 August 2019, Rodríguez moved to US MLS franchise Los Angeles FC for a transfer fee of €10.3 million.[4] He made his debut there on 26 August in a 3-3 draw against local rivals LA Galaxy.[5] He made nine league appearances for his new club in the 2019 campaign.[3]

On 14 July 2020, he scored his first goal in a LAFC shirt in a 3-3 draw against Houston Dynamo in the MLS Is Back tournament.[6] During that 2020 season, he was an undisputed regular and played 21 league games, scoring three goals and providing six assists.[7]

On 1 February 2021, Rodríguez moved to Spanish club UD Almería on a loan basis. The second division club secured an option to buy the winger.[8] He made his debut on 17 February 2021 (matchday 21) in a 2-1 away defeat to CD Leganés, when he was substituted for José Corpas in the closing stages.[9]

Between October 2016 and March 2017, Brian Rodríguez played two international matches for the Uruguay U17 national team.[10]

He participated in the 2019 U20 World Cup in Poland with the U20s, appearing in all four of the national team’s matches, scoring two goals and assisting one.[11]

On 7 September 2019, Rodríguez made his senior debut when he started from the start in a 2-1 friendly win over Costa Rica.[12] He scored for the first time for the Celeste in just his second international appearance four days later against the USA.[13]
