Alberto Cecchetti

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alberto Cecchetti (born 9 January 1944 in Genoa)[1] is a San Marinese politician. He was four times Capitano Reggente (Head of State), as well as Minister of Agriculture and Justice.

Cecchetti was a member of the Partito Socialista Sammarinese (PSS), serving as secretary and, from 2004, president of the party.[2] In 2005, the PSS merged with the Partito dei Democratici (PdD) to form the Partito dei Socialisti e dei Democratici (PSD). Cecchetti became a member of the party secretariat.[3] In July 2009 he joined the Partito Socialista Riformista Sammarinese (PSRS), founded as a split from the PSD[4] and became a member of the party’s secretariat.[5] The PSRS merged with the Nuovo Partito Socialista (NPS) to form the Partito Socialista (PS) in May 2012.[6] Cecchetti and his daughter, Member of Parliament Silvia Cecchetti, declared their resignation from the PS in September 2012.[7]

Cecchetti was a member of the Consiglio Grande e Generale, San Marino’s parliament, from 1974 to 1978 and again from 1988 to 2008.[8][9][10][11] He did not run again in the 2008 and 2012 elections.[12][13] In 1978, Cecchetti became Minister of Agriculture, Communications and Transport (Deputato per l’Agricultura, i Communicazioni e i Trasporti) for six months, replacing Antonio Lazzaro Volpinari, who was elected Capitano Reggente.[14] in the 30th Cabinet, he was Minister of Justice (Segretario di Stato per la Giustizia, i Rapporti con le Giunte di Castello e l’Informaziona) from December 2002 to December 2003.[15] Cecchetti held the office of Head of State (Capitano Reggente) four times in 1975, 1994, 1998 and 2001/2002.[16] In the legislative period from 2006 to 2008 he was Chairman of the Committee on Justice.[17]

Awards

Cecchetti was awarded the Grand Cross with Grand Chain of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on 11 March 2002.[18]
